The Government Response to the Family Justice Review

The Government has now published its response to the Family Justice Review. What stands out in respect of care proceedings is the proposed introduction of legislation that will make it much harder to instruct independent experts, in the expectation that local authorities will provide higher quality assessments themselves; ie a further nail in the coffin for the ISW.

What also stands out is the observation that “court scrutiny goes beyond what is needed to determine whether a care order is in the best interests of the child”.

But there is much to digest in the document, so well worth a read.
